29 Local Classrooms Participate in the 11th Annual Tug Hill Bird Quest - 116 Different Species Identified in 24-Hour Birdathon!
A record number of Classrooms participated as Feeder Teams in the 11th Annual Tug Hill Bird Quest! 29 - to be exact! The Classroom Feeder Teams have been an exciting addition to the Tug Hill Bird Quest! Classrooms from throughout the region were provided with a feeder and bag of bird seed (generously donated by Super Walmart, Lowe's, The Home Depot and Whites Lumber of Watertown) and participated by observing their feeders throughout the week and recording each species.Feeder Teams, made up of local friends and families also watched their feeders for at least 15 minutes each day throughout the week of Monday, May 31st - Friday, June 4th. But the fun did not stop there. The birding enthusiasts made up the 24-Hour Birdathon Teams. These teams selected a specific Tug Hill County for their team to exclusively bird in, and strived to identify as many species as possible in the 24-hour period - from Saturday, June 5th, 4pm - Sunday June 6th, 4pm. The winning team spotted 90 different species within the 24-hour period; a total of 116 different species were identified by all teams.
